Bookkeeping Cleanup Help October uses that month
October is here, and the month you would use for the estimate is still unlocked. October is not a drawer for the leftovers of spring. It is a month with its own bank statement.
The middle of October is a federal date for many owners
An extended individual return often comes due on 15 October.

That date is a reason to know where September stands, and where the year through September can be supported. It is not a reason to shovel unmatched spring activity into October and call the pile a catch-up. October's statement will not agree to a dump of older months, and the return does not get truer because the software now has a lump.
If the extension is the thing that brought you here, say so. We will tell you which months the return actually needs and which months can stay a project after the date. A return that needs a closed September is a different job from a cleanup of a whole open year.
October still has its own close
The month of the deadline is not exempt from the match.

Payroll in October, sales in October, and the card you used in October belong to October. They are not absorbed into a cleanup entry with a vague memo. When October later becomes the first closed month, or the next one, its statement has to be findable without archaeology.
Estimates that fall in January are easier if October and November were ordinary months. A heroic October followed by silence is how the next estimate becomes another surprise.
If October is simply the month on the wall and no extension is waiting, say that too. We will treat it as an ordinary month with its own statement. We would rather close a plain October than invent a story about catching up.
If this is the month you are in
Say whether 15 October is your date, or whether October is simply the month you are standing in.
